Literacy Support

Your child's literacy support journey begins with an assessment of their current understanding and competence in core literacy areas, and from there I create a personalised program to ensure they are receiving the support they need to become confident in all areas of literacy.

K - Year 2 | Learning to Read

For children in Kindergarten to Year 2, the focus is on establishing strong reading foundations. Sessions support the development of sound-letter connections, early decoding skills and spelling confidence, helping reading feel clearer and more predictable from the start.

Years 3 - 6 | Reading to Learn

For children in Years 3 to 6, the focus is on using reading and writing as tools for learning. Support strengthens fluency, comprehension and written expression, reducing effort and supporting greater confidence and independence in the classroom.

Initial Parent Enquiry Call (15 minutes)

A focused conversation to discuss your child’s literacy needs and explore whether private support with Read Well Spell Well is suitable for your child.

This conversation is not an assessment or teaching session. Its purpose is to understand your child’s needs and ensure alignment before commencing private support.

When a child struggles with reading or spelling, it’s easy to assume they simply need more practice (traditional tutoring). In reality, literacy difficulties often arise when one or more underlying skills haven’t developed as smoothly as expected. This is where our literacy support sessions can make a difference for your child.

Strong literacy skills depend on a combination of abilities, including:

- Recognising and working with sounds in words

- Understanding how sounds connect to letters and spelling patterns

- Developing fluency so reading doesn’t require constant effort

- Coordinating reading, spelling and writing processes.

If any of these foundations are unstable, reading and spelling can feel confusing and exhausting.

Why Some Children Work Hard but Still Struggle

Many children who struggle with literacy:

- Are bright and capable in other areas

- Try their best and put in effort

- Become frustrated or lose confidence over time.

The issue is rarely intelligence or motivation. It is more often about how the child is processing language and written words.

At Read Well Spell Well, support begins with understanding:

- Where the breakdown is occurring

- Which skills need strengthening

- How to support progress without overwhelm.

This allows sessions to be purposeful, personalised and reassuring for both you and your child.
